Three New Family-Friendly Shows for 2009

Dancap Productions Inc. [] Announces Three New Family-Friendly [] Shows for 2009 [] Presents Happy Days, A New Musical[] Co-produces Anne of Green Gables, The Musical™ [] Produces Canadian version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical

Today, Dancap Productions announced the highly anticipated show line-up for its sophomore year. Three new shows, suitable for all ages with a healthy injection of Canadiana. The company will be presenting Happy Days, A New Musical; co-producing the Charlottetown Festival’s Anne of Green Gables, The Musical™ and producing a Canadian version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical. All three shows are available for as little as $100; one of the many Dancap 2009 Packages available, with details at dancaptickets.com.

Aubrey Dan, President of Dancap Productions, made the announcement at a news conference that featured performances from each of the three shows. The spectacle took place on the Main Stage at the Toronto Centre for the Arts, where Dan has a long-term agreement to present and produce his blockbuster shows. “Dancap is proving itself to be a powerhouse for theatre in Toronto,” proclaims Dan. “As a presenter, co-producer, and producer, Dancap Productions continues its commitment to bring exciting theatre to Toronto. We have clearly raised the bar with the quality of theatre productions we’ve brought to date and our 2009 show line-up is no exception as we strive to take the theatre-going experience from the ordinary to the extraordinary.”

Co-produces Anne of Green Gables, The Musical in May 2009

Paul Shaw, Dancap Productions’ Artistic Producer announced a co-production with the Charlottetown Festival of a beloved Canadian story that has been transformed into the perfect family musical – Anne of Green Gables, The Musical™ slated for May of 2009. “Anne™ has graced our stage for 44 consecutive years. More than 2.3 million people will have seen our production in Charlottetown by the end of this summer. It is almost 18 years since we last staged Anne™ in Toronto, and we could not be happier than to announce today our partnership with Dancap Productions Inc. to bring Canada’s favourite redhead to Toronto,” says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts.

“We at Dancap are very excited to bring the Prince Edward Island treasure to Toronto for all those who have not had the chance to experience this wonderful musical,” adds Dan.

Produces Canadian version of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical from November 2009 to January 2010

One of the biggest announcements came from Dan as he revealed that the must-see holiday classic based on an adored children’s book that has taken Broadway by storm, Dr. Seuss; How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Musical is going to be a Canadian musical production. Slated for November 2009 and running until early January 2010, Grinch will boast Canadians on- and off-stage, as the company will be hiring a local crew to create and build the show.

“As a presenter, co-producer and producer, Dancap Productions is dedicated to embracing the Canadian theatre community,” says Shaw. “Canada has a tremendous pool of talent that includes actors, directors, designers, musicians, and craftspeople, and as a keystone of Canada’s entertainment industry, live theatre must continue to provide opportunities for the considerable talent we have in this country.”

Competition is healthy and everyone is benefiting

“Competition is healthy and everyone is benefiting – both culturally and economically. Toronto’s cultural landscape is experiencing a renaissance that hasn’t been seen in years,” adds Dan. “In fact, when you consider just the Main Stage at the Toronto Centre for the Arts, there is the potential for more than 14,000 customers each week during a typical show’s run. When you factor in their anticipated ancillary consumer spending, our presence is having a direct economic impact for the City of Toronto helping to be a magnet to attract tourists to this great city.”

Dancap will surprise with another announcement

When asked why he’s only announced three new shows, Dan quipped: “I have the reputation of being ‘predictably unpredictable’ with wonderful and delightful surprises when no one is expecting them. It’s a reputation that I confess I thoroughly enjoy living up to. Dancap will soon surprise, with another announcement of rich and exciting shows that we look forward to sharing in the future.”

Judi Pressman, Dancap’s Director of Sales, offered a more practical response to the three-show question: “We know that a three-show package is what our customers want. They have told us that they prefer a show line-up that is manageable from a time perspective and affordable for their pocketbook. So we’re giving them what they want by offering a Family Friendly Three Pack. All three shows are available for as little as $100; one of the many Dancap 2009 Packages available.” Further details are available at dancaptickets.com.

Coming May 2009

Freckled-faced Anne with her fiery temper, passion for melodrama and penchant for misadventures, brings laughter, love and more than a little consternation to the village of Avonlea. It is Canada’s longest-running musical and a most beloved export, this musical manages to capture the spirit of L.M. Montgomery’s red-haired heroine.

Book by Don Harron. Music Norman Campbell. Lyrics by Don Harron, Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell and Mavor Moore.

Coming November 2009 to January 2010

Re-discover the magic of Dr. Seuss’ classic holiday tale as it comes to life on stage. Originally conceived by the three-time Tony Award®-winning Director Jack O’Brien, the whimsical world of Whoville is beautifully realized by an A-list creative team in this delightful musical production.

Featuring the hit songs “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas,” The Grinch discovers there’s more to Christmas than he bargained for in this heart-warming holiday classic. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the holiday loving Whos.
